The postal service in Peru can really be a pain when it comes to receiving packages but after receiving many packages of all sizes, I have learned that the particular post office where I receive my mail is very good manered and reliable and I have not been charged to pick up any packages of any size thus far :)
Here are some tips for sending packages:
-When filling out the international customs sheet no matter what you send, always put that you are sending either candy or books and that the worth is $5 or less
-Writing "Que Dios te bendiga" (God bless you) all over the outside of the package will make the package less likely to be stolen...strange, I know but people in South America tend to be pretty religious and nobody wants to steal a package that says God bless you all over it.
-If you want to send something that will get to me by Christmas, send it at the beginning of November so that it makes it in time due to a heavy increase in mail traffic.
